Arrival at Naples International Airport today.  After collecting your luggage, you will be met by our local representatives and transferred to the Hotel Plaza Grillo or similar.   The remainder of the day is free at leisure to enjoy this city at your own pace. This evening we will meet at a local restaurant specializing in Ligurian Cuisine for a welcome to Genoa dinner. (B,D)

Genoa (Half Day City Tour)

After breakfast at the hotel this morning, Step into Genoa, a city reborn, where history and modern vibrancy meet at the water’s edge. The port, now beautifully restored and redesigned, shines as a symbol of the city’s regeneration, framed by a dramatic crescent of ancient walls and fortifications. Beyond the harbor lies Genoa’s old town—a captivating maze of narrow streets alive with fruit markets, churches, small shops, and cafés that embody authentic Italian charm.

The city’s grandeur is revealed in its aristocratic palaces, including the Royal Palace and Palazzo Rosso, both home to remarkable collections of art. Rising proudly above the skyline is the 76-meter-high lighthouse, Genoa’s enduring symbol, while the celebrated Aquarium—one of the largest in Europe—offers a glimpse into the wonders of the sea. After breakfast we check-out of our hotel and say goodbye to Genoa.   The journey continues toward Santa Margherita, with one last unforgettable stop in Genoa at the panoramic viewpoint of Spianata Castelletto.  

Traveling along the Ligurian coast, the tour pauses in Camogli, a charming fishing village renowned for its pastel-colored houses, picturesque harbor, and authentic narrow streets. A guided walk reveals the lively seafront promenade, the historic fishing harbor, and the iconic Church of Santa Maria Assunta. Perched dramatically above the sea, the medieval Dragonara Castle offers a glimpse into the village’s storied past. As you wander through the atmospheric caruggi, the narrow alleys alive with vibrant colors, local shops, and maritime heritage, Camogli’s timeless character unfolds at every turn.

The visit concludes with lunch in a traditional local restaurant, where the flavors of authentic Ligurian cuisine are savored in a relaxed coastal setting. Breakfast at our hotel this morning.  In the morning, the adventure begins with a ferry ride from Santa Margherita, gliding across the sparkling waters of the Ligurian coast. As the Mediterranean landscape unfolds in all its splendor, the journey leads to the Abbey of San Fruttuoso—a hidden treasure tucked among dramatic cliffs and accessible only by sea or scenic trail. Dating back to the 8th century, this ancient monastery offers an intimate and serene atmosphere far removed from the bustle of tourist paths. During a guided tour, experts share the Abbey’s fascinating history, architecture, and restoration, while visitors explore the church, crypt, cloister, and tower—an unforgettable glimpse into one of Liguria’s most enchanting and least visited sites.

From there, the tour continues to Portofino, the jewel of the Italian Riviera. After breakfast this morning, the journey continues with a scenic ferry ride from Santa Margherita to Rapallo, offering beautiful views of the Ligurian coast. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed to the Pesto Show, an unforgettable immersion into the culinary traditions of Liguria and Italy. The experience begins in the square outside the store, where a toast of local sparkling wine and freshly baked focaccia sets the tone for the day.

Inside, participants are guided step by step to prepare pesto alla Genovese the traditional way—using a mortar and pestle, just as it has been done for centuries. The culinary adventure continues with tastings of Ligurian extra virgin olive oil, savory olive tapenade served on tartines, and a presentation of three distinct artisanal aged balsamic vinegars. Each flavor tells a story of the region’s rich heritage, creating a true sensory journey.

Set on a rocky peninsula, the town boasts two breathtaking bays—the Bay of Silence (Baia del Silenzio) and the Bay of Fables (Baia delle Favole), named in honor of Hans Christian Andersen, who once stayed here. With its dramatic cliffs, sparkling sea views, and vibrant atmosphere, Sestri Levante has become one of the Riviera’s most sought-after destinations.

Beyond its natural beauty, the town offers cultural treasures such as the Rizzi Gallery, Gualino Castle, and several beautiful churches, all surrounded by lively streets filled with shops, cafés, beaches, and restaurants. It is the perfect blend of history, charm, and relaxation.

Famous for its crystal-clear waters, dramatic cliffs, and colorful houses, Monterosso offers a relaxed atmosphere where history, nature, and culture blend seamlessly.

Upon arrival, a guided walking tour takes you through the oldest part of the town. Stroll the narrow cobbled streets of the historic center and discover landmarks such as the Church of San Giovanni Battista, with its Romanesque bell tower, and the striking statue of Neptune gazing out over the sea. Along the seafront, enjoy panoramic views of the coastline and surrounding mountains, a perfect setting for unforgettable photographs.

The journey continues to Cantina Buranco, a winery nestled in the hills above Monterosso. Sestri Levente (Riomaggiore and Vernazza)

The day begins with a scenic train ride from Sestri Levante to Monterosso al Mare, one of the most charming villages of the Cinque Terre. Upon arrival, we board a ferry that glides along the stunning Ligurian coastline, offering panoramic views of crystal-clear waters and the colorful villages that dot the cliffs.

Our first stop is Riomaggiore, a picturesque village renowned for its vibrant houses perched dramatically above the sea. Here, we wander through narrow streets, admire the Church of San Giovanni Battista, and stroll along the seafront, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere and breathtaking views that make this village unforgettable.

The journey continues by ferry to Vernazza, one of the most scenic and beloved destinations in the Cinque Terre. With its natural harbor and lively pastel houses, Vernazza captures the essence of coastal Italy. After exploring the village center and visiting the Church of Santa Margherita d’Antiochia, we enjoy a traditional lunch at a local restaurant, savoring authentic Ligurian specialties.

Following lunch and time to explore Vernazza’s charm, we return by train to Sestri Levante, concluding a day filled with spectacular landscapes, cultural treasures, and unforgettable memories along the Ligurian Riviera. (B,L)

Sestri Levente – Lerici/Portovenere - Lucca

After check-out, the journey continues toward Tuscany, with a first stop in the picturesque town of Lerici, set along the dazzling Ligurian coast. From here, a ferry ride carries us across sparkling waters to Portovenere, a charming village celebrated for its colorful houses, medieval architecture, and breathtaking sea views. The boat ride itself is a highlight, offering a unique perspective of the dramatic cliffs and shimmering coastline.

Upon arrival, there is time to explore Portovenere’s historic center. Wander through narrow cobbled streets, admire the iconic Church of San Pietro perched high above the sea, and soak in the tranquil atmosphere of this UNESCO World Heritage site. Free time allows you to fully embrace the beauty of this coastal gem before returning by ferry to Lerici.

Back in Lerici, enjoy a delicious lunch at a local seafood restaurant, where fresh Ligurian dishes are served with views of the harbor and the Gulf of Poets—a setting that perfectly captures the spirit of the Riviera.

In the morning, the group meets the guide at the hotel reception for a walking tour of Lucca, one of Tuscany’s most charming and well-preserved cities. The tour begins with a leisurely stroll through the historic center, where stories of medieval architecture, Renaissance heritage, and centuries of history come to life.

As the walk unfolds, guests will admire the city’s ancient walls—built during the Renaissance and still encircling Lucca today. Transformed into a leafy promenade, the walls offer beautiful views of the city and the surrounding countryside. Wandering through narrow cobbled streets lined with quaint shops, cafés, and historic buildings, visitors experience the authentic charm that defines Lucca.

Highlights of the tour include the Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, an oval-shaped square built on the ruins of a Roman amphitheater, and the Torre Guinigi, crowned with its famous rooftop garden of oak trees, offering panoramic views across the city. Along the way, the guide shares fascinating insights into Lucca’s past, from its proud history as an independent republic to its connection with the celebrated composer Giacomo Puccini, who was born here.

After breakfast.  In the morning, the group departs from Lucca and travels to Pisa, a city celebrated worldwide for its iconic architectural wonders. Upon arrival, a guided tour unfolds in the magnificent Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles), home to some of Italy’s most treasured landmarks. Guests will marvel at the world-renowned Leaning Tower of Pisa, the majestic Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, and the impressive Baptistery, while the guide shares fascinating insights into their history, artistry, and cultural significance as masterpieces of Romanesque architecture.

Following the tour, the journey continues to Fattoria Il Poggio, a charming farm nestled in the hills of Montecarlo, a town famed for its excellent wines and picturesque countryside. Here, guests will enjoy a traditional Tuscan lunch featuring local specialties paired with wines produced on-site.

After lunch, the group returns to Lucca, where the afternoon is free to unwind or explore the city’s enchanting streets, shops, and piazzas at leisure. (B)
